Miz Metro

Laura O’Reilly is Miz Metro, a city kid who was raised by the melting pot of Manhattan and grew up in the entertainment business. She is the 22 year old singer/songwriter and actress who has graced over 50 stages from New York to London, engaging her audiences with her stage presence and indefinable music. “But it isn’t her sense of style that pulls in the audience. Her powerful, controlled voice blends with and rises above the music to bring her message of social change,” explains ClubPlanet.com. It is her “fresh dynamic”, as Chuck Taylor from Billboard Magazine puts it, that is making Miz Metro a creative force to be reckoned with in the music industry. With her frank lyrics and unconventional soulful pop sound Miz Metro is often compared to Gwen Stefani, Lily Allen, Nellie Mckay and Fiona Apple.  Influenced by these artists along with Lauren Hill, Etta James, Billie Holiday and Debbie Harry, Miz Metro draws influence in music ranging from jazz to gypsy folk. With a unique voice that crosses all genres, Miz Metro is carving out her own path in the music industry creating a sound and style as unique and unpredictable as the city that she calls home.

Miz Metro has acted professionally in national commercials, theatre and film since she was 9 years old and graduated from LaGuardia H.S of the Performing Arts. Upon graduating Miz Metro received a national merit award in musical theatre/spoken word from the Presidential Scholars National Foundation of the Arts, ranking her in the top 5% of young performers in the country, and was one of the few drama majors in the history of the school to graduate with an award of excellence from the vocal department.

The live performance of Miz Metro’s song “T.V Land” aired internationally on FOX 5’s Fearless Music in June, 2008.  Miz Metro won the viewers poll for best performance. Miz Metro was also an official showcasing artist at the 2008 SXSW’s first ever Soul showcase.

Miz Metro is an established presence within New York’s downtown music and art scene performing with her 7 piece backing band “The Makebelieves”.  Miz Metro is currently finishing her highly anticipated self titled debut album with grammy award winning engineer Marc Urselli. Miz Metro been featured as a solo artist on “Breaking For the Holidays” along side the likes of Chaka Khan and has been featured on “A-NY Minute Hip Hop Howl Mix-tape” next to Grammy nominated singer Emily King.  As an aspiring VJ Miz Metro has done exclusive interviews with GZA, Spank Rock, Fab 5- Freddy, and Def Jam Recording artist Lady Sovereign.
